Gahanna is served by the Gahanna-Jefferson Public School district, which also serves parts of Jefferson and Mifflin townships, and includes approximately 7,000 students from kindergarten through grade 12.

During the late 1800s and the early 1900s, Gahanna, Ohio, residents became famous for the quality and quantity of herbs that they grew. Local residents eventually began to call their city the "Herb Capital of Ohio." In 1972, the Ohio government officially bestowed this honor on Gahanna. To celebrate Gahanna's past and its continuing use of herbs, the city holds the Gahanna Herb Day and Gahanna Herb Festival in the month of May of every year. The city government also has dedicated an entire park, the Geroux Herb Garden, to growing herbs.
